The Leamon Sound Device (LSD) uses standard off-the-shelf audio

equipment. The speakers are arranged in three-dimensional space, which

makes it difficult to render accurately on a two-dimensional web page.

The 24 speakers have been positioned to avoid room elements like windows

and doors yet retain a fairly even distribution. Speakers are offset from each

other across the room in order to minimize phase issues.

There are three sets of monitors: A1-A8, B1-B8, and C1-C8.

The east wall contains B6-B8. The south wall contains C1-C7.

The west wall contains C8-A3. The north wall contains A4-B5.

At night, with the lights out, the blue lights on the speakers are the only

lights visible (I dim the monitor during playback with a standard OS X

screensaver).

Ideally the LSD would be set up in a such a way that there is no sense of

speaker location. I imagine standing frames with black speaker fabric

covering each wall would be one way to achieve this effect.

Note: the Mac shown is a G4 -- the G5 was in the shop while this

photo was taken.
